Wall Quilt 001
9 Lives I Wish to Live: A Study on Windows
-Approximately 12-1/2” wide x 12” tall
-Entirely hand pieced and handquilted, no machine sewing
-There is an invisible sleeve on the back side for hanging. As shown in the photos on the green wall it is hanging on a dowel that has been slipped through the invisible sleeve; the dowel is hanging from 2 small eyelet wall screws behind the quilt. You could also use command strips or tacks to hang, or something else creative for displaying! There is no editing done to these photos, the reason the color of the wall changes is there is photos in overcast as well as photos in golden hour light. I want to show how the texture can visually change on the piece depending on the light, which is one of my favorite things about quilted wall art!
-The handquilting is in 100% cotton, hand dyed thread in a pale pink color.
-Signed and dated on the back bottom right corner
*A bit about this piece and what it means to me:
This hand-quilted piece is a patchwork meditation on longing and observation of sorts; a glimpse into the chaotic yet intimate life of urban living that I’m endlessly drawn to. Each block is a window (at least, that’s how I see them), memories and moments from the vibrant city views that I believe have shaped my current stage of creativity. These windows are pillars of sorts in my life and what I feel when exploring a place or lifestyle unknown to me, but yet where I still feel peacefully at home.
There is a window for creativity, sensuality, adventure, growth, and for pondering the otherworldly. There is one for deep loneliness, for gathering, for learning to be comfortable with being misunderstood, and for all of my wildest dreams. Together, they form a celebration of imperfections, footsteps in the wrong [and right!] directions, as a form of my truth.
Entirely hand-sewn from scraps of recent projects, each chosen fabric carries a story remembered or one I wish to be written. To me, windows are both shelter and escape; an archive of the many versions of self I see in others, and vice versa. Ultimately, this piece is an invitation to make space for the lives you wish to live within the life you are already living. To me, the present is the most mysterious place to be.
I hope this write up sparked curiosity within you, and perhaps you can find your own meaning to windows whether you’re looking up at them from the street or beyond them from where you currently stand.
Handmade with Love,
